DESCRIPTION:Annual trip out to Lake Vrynwy.   \nCar assist ride from Llanymynech to Lake Vyrnwy. Two options: \n\nDrive to the free car park in Llanymynech to start at 10:00. \nAfter crossing the A483 take the first right turn\, immediately after The Dolphin pub\, into the car park.\n59 miles\, B\, hilly.\n2026 08 25 Lake Vyrnwy from Llanymynech · Ride with GPS \n\nMeet Peter at Shelton Water Tower at 08;00 to ride to Llanymynech.\nI had planned a refreshment break at the café before we meet any drivers in the car park. However\, The Village Pantry closed at the end of July. According to their Facebook page The Dolphin is serving breakfasts.\n89 miles (from and to the water tower)\, B\, hilly.\n2026 08 25 Lake Vyrnwy from Shelton · Ride with GPS.\n\nLunch is at the village shop in Llanwddyn\, either 21 miles from the car park before circumnavigating Lake Vyrnwy or 33 miles after. Link to their Takeaway Menu. There are tables and chairs outside but no shelter if it rains. A public toilet is across the road. The long-range forecast suggests warm and dry conditions at the start but possible afternoon showers in the Llanwddyn and Llamymynech areas.  \nDave Blowers has very kindly offered refreshments at his house in Llanymynech on our return. \nIt would be helpful to know who is going and where they plan to start.

DESCRIPTION:Depart ASDA\, 09.00 hrs \nOutward:  Castle Walk\, Coton Hill\, Baschurch\, Stanwardine – banana\, Hordley\, Welsh Frankton\, St Martins\, Pont-y-Blew\, Chirk – Cafe Wylfa – lunch \nReturn:  Weston Rhyn\, Hengoed\, Derwen\, Whittington\, Queen’s Head\, Eardiston\, Wykey\, Ruyton XI Towns – possible pint\, L Ness\, Montford Br\, Shelton – disperse \nDistance ASDA to Shelton 50 miles w 2000 feet of ascent\, ie “undulating plus”\, but with three significant ascents up to W Frankton\, from Pont-y-Blew to Chirk and up to Weston Rhyn \nUsual generic risk assessment provisions apply\, with the following specific comments: \nBusier / faster roads – Berwick Road to Baschurch\, Derwen to Queen’s Hd and from Montford Br – split into tight groups of 4s\, 5s or 6s – minimum of 100m between groups \nRight turns at difficult junctions – at Coton Hill traffic lights\, off A495 at Welsh Frankton and onto B5009 at Derwen – plus across awkward crossroads in Chirk – all within speed limits but particular care and awareness still required \nHazardous sections – v steep ramp over canal bridge at Lower Frankton – AG to go first and signal if clear – broken loose surfaces particularly after W Frankton – steep with tight turns down from St Martins – allow fellow riders plenty of room
