SUMMARY:MWR to IRONBRIDGE (CMU)
DESCRIPTION:The ride is 54km/33miles long\, has 590m/1936ft of ascent with a peak height of 222m/722ft.  \n \nThe ride is flat/undulating other than the climb upto Little Wenlock which starts at Eyton on Severn and continues for 7km\, with a maximum gradient of 13% (for a very short time) and an average of around 6%.\n \nThe route uses small lanes and the B4380 that runs between Ironbridge and Atcham.  Road surfaces are generally ok other than the lane we use to climb upto and out of Little Wenlock.  This lane has areas where the surface is in poor condition and gravel has accumulated where the lane dips and turns.  There are a couple of steep descents so brakes need to be in good working order!!\n \nWe will stop for a short break at the ancient oak tree just before we cross the B4380 and lunch is at the Furnace Kitchen Click.  On our return we have the option to stop at Home Farm\, Attingham Click\n \nThis ride passes a few of Shropshire’s historical landmarks\, Attingham Estate\, Wroxeter\, Coalbrokdale/Ironbridge and our ancient oak tree.

(Shifnal train station a stone’s throw away)\nMeet at Shifnal Aston Street Car park (TF11 8DW – 52.666784\, -2.371567) for a start at 10 am.\nThe ride is 37 miles with 552 metres of ascent\, so classed as CMU.\nWe will proceed via Cosford\, Albrighton\, Patshull and Seisdon to Halfpenny Green.\nOur return route is via Claverley\, Worfield\, Chesterton and Beckbury.\nIf you wish to join us en route please let me know\, so that suitable location is agreed upon.\nThere are many roadside spots under shade on our route suitable for 11s.\nWe will criss-cross 7 major roads but the ride will mainly be on quiet country lanes.\nLunch will be at the HalfPenny Wine Estate.  https://www.halfpennygreen.co.uk/\nThe general menu is on their website. DESCRIPTION:***** Note the different start location due to Shrewsbury 10k Run *****\n \nI thought that because the forecast is good and we have daylight why not try something different.\nSo\, this ride is to Ludlow and back\, a total of 93km/1170m of elevation.\nThis might sound a lot but there’s an option to shorten the ride by taking a train back from either Ludlow or Church Stretton.\n \nThe distance to Ludlow is 47km and CS\,  72km.\nThe route uses lanes and goes out via Berrington\, Cound Stanks\, Kenley\, Longville in the Dale\, Broad stone\, North Sutton to Ludlow.\nWe return via Broomfield\, Culmington\, Harton\, Ticklerton\, Church Stretton\, Stapleton and Annscroft.\n \nThe outward journey has no opportunities for cafe stops\, so bring plenty of water and snacks.\nThe return has the opportunity to take on water at Church Stretton.\n \nLunch for the long ride will be at The Farmers Kitchen just outside Ludlow.\n \nIf you are thinking of using the train\, please check the train timetable before starting.\n \nI would expect the outward leg to about 3 hrs with drink stops.\nThe leg from Ludlow to Church Stretton\, about 2 hrs.\nI shall aim for an average min speed of 17-18 km/h .\n \nThere are a few short\, sharp climbs to Ludlow\, max gradient 11% .\nFrom Ludlow\, there a  couple of longer climbs\, max gradient around 11%\nThe route enjoys lovely views across Shropshire and passes along quite lanes.  If you decide to stop at Ludlow\, there’s plenty to explore.\n \n

DESCRIPTION:(Postponed ride from 7th June) \nThis Sunday’s ride comprises  40 gentle miles of delightful flat/undulating countryside to Knockin via West Felton.  \nNo major bumps. \nThe route takes us through Montford Bridge\, onto Little Ness (with roadside stop for elevenses)\,  Ryton 11 towns\, West Felton\, then over the A5 to lunch at the Bradford Arms. Please let Max know if you want lunch so he can book a suitable table.  \nAfter lunch we’ll proceed through Kinnerley past the Merlin Radio Telescope\, onto Melverley\, Coedway then return via Cruckton and Arscott. \nThe short stretch along A458 /Welshpool rd was hairy when i recced it on Tuesday with traffic overtaking at 60mph. I propose we use the walkway and cross on foot if it’s busy. \n

However\, the Tuesday & Friday routes will be partly/fully bespoke routes. DESCRIPTION:* Cancelled due to the weather firecast* \nThis Sunday’s ride comprises  40 gentle miles of delightful flat/undulating countryside to Knockin via West Felton.  \nNo major bumps. \nThe route takes us through Montford Bridge\, onto Little Ness (with roadside stop for elevenses)\,  Ryton 11 towns\, West Felton\, then over the A5 to lunch at the Bradford Arms. Please let Max know if you want lunch so he can book a suitable table.  \nAfter lunch we’ll proceed through Kinnerley past the Merlin Radio Telescope\, onto Melverley\, Coedway then return via Cruckton and Arscott. \nThe short stretch along A458 /Welshpool rd was hairy when i recced it on Tuesday with traffic overtaking at 60mph. I propose we use the walkway and cross on foot if it’s busy. \nThe weather forecast has improved but Max will keep an eye on it and make a call late Saturday.
