If you want to contribute to our website, you will first need to register. When you have done this, you will normally be a Subscriber to the site, though there is the choice to be able to contribute to the site, in which case you will be made into an Author.
As you will see later, being a Subscriber doesn’t enable you to do more than contribute to the Forum and receive update emails that we occasionally send out with information about Cycling UK Shropshire. However, if you are an Author, you can add rides/events, pictures and news, and to contribute to the blog.
Lets get started – on all the pages of our website, you should see a menu at the top, as shown in Figure 1 (all of these images can be viewed in more detail simply by clicking on them). Click on the register link and it will take you to a page that looks like that shown in Figure 2.
Fill in a Username (if it is already in use, you will be given the opportunity to choose another one), First Name, Last Name, Cycling UK Membership No., Phone Number and Email address (again, if already in use….), tick the box (if you want to be an Author) and click the Submit button.
The Web Administrator will then register you on the site and email you back with confirmation of your details, together with a site-generated password. Copy the password (please don’t try to type it when you login – it’s too easy to make errors!) and then login by clicking on the login link on the menu on any of the pages on the site (see Fig 3). You can then login with your Username, as chosen above, and Password (paste it in).
When you have logged in, click on Profile on the menu at the left of the Dashboard, as shown in Fig 4 (this is the Profile of a Subscriber). You should see a black bar across the top of the page – this is your means of swapping between the site and the Dashboard – the pages behind the site where content is added, updated or deleted.
The minimum you should do here is to to change your password to something more memorable. There are requirements for the strength of the password, but you can override these; finish by clicking the Update Profile button.
If you look at the menu on the left of the Dashboard, you will see that there is not a lot you can do here. In particular, you cannot add anything to the site (other than on the Forum).
If you have been made into an Author, you will see a Profile page as shown in Fig 5. Here, you should also change your password, as described above. You will also see that the menu on the left is more extensive – you can write posts (news, blogs, galleries, etc) and add maps and rides/events.
More of that in later Help pages………….
