As an incentive, Arthur Broadhurst said the he would donate £5 to the Severn Hospice for every second that I took off a national age record in racing time trials. For several weeks, although I was winning, I was way off a national record time. Then on the last event of the year, a 30 mile time trial on October 6th, I succeeded on a course in Essex, reducing the age record for a 74 YO by 2min 58 sec for a time of 1hr 8min 37sec. Arthur was stunned to receive a bill for £898. We reached a compromise and Arthur wrote out a cheque for £89.60 (50p per second) which I was very happy to deliver to the Hospice. Peter C.
